SCHRADER\n\n \n\nBill joined the United States Army in 1948 and volunteered to deploy to the Korean War in 1952. During his service in the Korean war\, he received a Silver Star as well as two Purple Hearts. Bill joined the special forces\, being one of the first soldiers in the nation to wear a Green Beret\, and served in Laos\, Iran\, and Vietnam.\n\nWhile serving in Vietnam\, Master Sergeant earned the Bronze Star and Air Medal for his Actions. Command Master Sergeant Schrader retired from the Army in 1976 after twenty-eight years of dedicated and honorable service.\n\n \n\nBill and his wife\, Leona\, moved to Grandville in 1978 to settle down and raise their family.  He became an active member in the Neil Fonger American Legion Post 179 becoming the eventual Post Commander. Bill was integral in organizing and participating in Grandville's Memorial Day march and remembrance for many years.\n\n \n\nIn 1997 Bill opened his Christmas Lite Show\, with an idea and a mission. "Our whole mission is to bring a smile to the kids.... It's all about the kids."  In the last 27 years\, the Christmas Lite Show team of mostly Veterans has grown from 5 to over 30. It has also grown from generators\, gas cans\, and mile-long extension cords to transformers\, power boxes\, and 100% LEDs\, and from 1 semi-trailer full of lights to 8! The spirit of Christmas\, to Bill and the team\, is about spreading joy and good fortune to our community. They carry out this spirit by supporting and donating to local organizations like the Grand Rapids Veterans Home.\n\n \n\nBill Schrader is known widely throughout the Grandville Community for his positive outlook and can-do attitude. Thank you\, Bill\, for all you do!!
